Can constructed action be considered obligatory?

چکیده
A communicative device that a signer can take advantage of in the visual–gestural modality is the use of the signer’s body to depict the actions and movements of an object—whether that object be animate or inanimate. This communicative device (referred to within this abstract as becoming the object) is used frequently in signed narratives, but it also appears in other genres of signing. Whether or not becoming the object is dependent on the use of traditional linguistic devices (e.g., signs, so-called ‘‘classifier’’ constructions, word order structures, etc.) is open to question, so its role as a necessary part of ASL or any signed language may be the source of debate. This study seeks to explore the degree to which becoming the object is obligatory. To that end, production and judgment data are discussed, and it is suggested that specific examples of becoming the object appear to be obligatory for the depiction of some actions of animate objects. Further, commonly used alternative strategies to becoming the object are also discussed. The overall findings suggest that some instantiations of becoming the object can be considered obligatory in some contexts—especially for some signers. Implications of these results are discussed, especially as they concern the use of mimetic versus linguistic representations within both modalities—sign and speech. # 2006 Elsevier B.V. بررسی اثر مهار گیرنده رایانیدینی(RYR) بر فعالیت پیسمیکری
Background & Aim: The role of ryanodine receptor(RYR) on pacemaker activity of heart cells is controversial. Some investigators have suggested that it is obligatory, while others believe it is partial and not obligatory. The principle aim of this study was once more to characterize the role of ryanodine receptor(RyR) on the pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node(SAN) and the atrioventric...
متن کاملHow to define ‘Moral Realism’
Moral realism is the doctrine that some propositions asserting that some action is ‘morally’ good (obligatory, bad, or wrong) are true. This paper examines three different definitions of what it is for an action to be ‘morally’ good (with corresponding definitions for ‘morally’ obligatory, bad, or wrong) which would make moral realism a clear and plausible view. The first defines ‘morally good ...
متن کاملEnforcing Obligation with Security Monitors
With the ubiquitous deployment of large scale networks, more and more complex human interactions are supported by computer applications. This poses new challenges on the expressiveness of security policy design systems, often requiring the use of new security paradigms. In this paper we identify a restricted type of obligation which is useful to express new security policies. This type of oblig...
متن کاملWZW action in odd dimensional gauge theories
It is shown that Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) type actions can be constructed in odd dimensional space-times using Wilson line or Wilson loop. WZW action constructed using Wilson line gives anomalous gauge variations and the WZW action constructed using Wilson loop gives anomalous chiral transformation. We show that pure gauge theory including Yang-Mills action, Chern-Simons action and the WZW acti...
متن کاملThe Effect of Planning Lessons on the Amount of Speaking When Integrating Language and Content in Iranian Content-Based Courses
While learners’ ability to speak academic language develops over time in content-based programs, the development of their nonacademic language appears to lag behind. Students’ speaking in content-based (CB) classrooms is confined to an academic discourse style. In the researchers’ point of view, the gap of less amount of nonacademic speaking can be bridged by the application of the conceptual f...
